Overview:
Your checkout page is the most important part of your online store. Eaglecart allows you to fully customize the checkout experience to ensure you collect the exact information you need for shipping, without overwhelming your customers. You can also add custom service fees, allow tipping, and set minimum order values.
Here is a step-by-step guide to setting up your checkout page.
Step 1: Customer Contact Rules
To access these settings, navigate to Settings on your left-hand menu and click Checkout.
The first section is Customer contact. This determines how you will communicate with the customer about their order.
Name: Toggle this on to ask for their first and last name upfront.
Email: Toggle this on to make an email address mandatory for order confirmations.
Phone number: Toggle this on if you require a phone number (Highly recommended if you use SMS or WhatsApp order notifications).
Require sign in before checkout: Turn this on if you run a private, wholesale, or members-only store where customers must create an account before they can buy anything.
Step 2: Customer Address Information
Next, customize the form fields the customer has to fill out for their shipping address. Keep this as simple as possible to increase your sales conversions!
For each field (Company name, Address line 2, and Shipping address phone number), choose one of three options:
Don't include: Hides the field completely.
Optional: Shows the field but lets the customer skip it.
Required: The customer cannot complete their purchase without filling this out.
Pro-Tip: If you use a shipping courier that requires a phone number for delivery, make sure to set the "Shipping address phone number" to Required!
Step 3: Add Service Fees or Tipping
Scroll down to the next section to configure extra checkout charges.
Service Fee: If you want to charge a mandatory handling, packaging, or processing fee, you can set it up here.
Add a Title (e.g., Handling Fee) and a Short description.
Enter the Fee % you want to charge based on the total cart value.
You can cap this by entering a Minimum and Maximum AED amount.
Tipping: Check the box next to Show tipping options at checkout if you want to allow customers to leave an optional tip for your team or delivery drivers.
Step 4: Checkout Preferences & Minimum Order Value
The Preferences section allows you to fine-tune the checkout interface. Use the toggle switches to turn these features ON or OFF:
Display item(s): Shows a summary of the products, quantities, and prices in the cart.
Item(s) weight: Displays the total physical weight of the order (useful if shipping rates are based on weight).
Use the shipping address as the billing address by default: Speeds up checkout by assuming the customer's billing and shipping address are the same (they can still change it if needed).
Discounts: Allows customers to type in a promo code at checkout.
Minimum order value: Check this box if you want to force customers to spend a certain amount (e.g., AED 50) before the checkout button unlocks.
Step 5: The Danger Zone (Disable Checkout)
At the very bottom of the page, you will see the Danger zone.
If you toggle Disable checkout ON, customers will still be able to browse your store and add items to their cart, but they will not be able to place an order.
When should I use this? This is perfect if you want to temporarily turn your website into a "Catalog Mode" (for example, if you are going on vacation, doing inventory counting, or stopping sales during a holiday).
Don't forget to click the black Save button at the top right when you are finished!
