How to Set Up Cash on Delivery (COD)?

Written by Support

Overview:
Cash on Delivery (COD) is a highly popular payment method where customers pay for their order in cash when it is delivered to their door. Eaglecart allows you to easily enable COD, provide special instructions to the buyer, charge an extra COD handling fee, and even restrict COD to specific shipping zones or order totals.

Here is how to configure Cash on Delivery for your store.

Step 1: Add the COD Payment Method

To get started, you need to access your payment settings in the Eaglecart admin panel.

  1. On the left-hand menu, navigate to Settings and click on Payments.

  2. Scroll down to the Manual payment methods section.

  3. Click the + Manual payment method button to open the dropdown menu.

  4. Select Cash on Delivery.

Step 2: Configure Basic Details & Instructions

A pop-up window will appear where you can customize how COD looks to your customers at checkout.

  1. Payment method name: This is the title the customer will see at checkout (e.g., Cash on Delivery).

  2. Description: Write a short note that appears right below the payment name at checkout (e.g., 10 AED COD charges may apply).

  3. Payment instructions: Provide detailed instructions for the buyer (e.g., Please prepare exact change for the driver). This message will be displayed on their Thank You page and in their order confirmation email.

Step 3: Set Up Additional COD Fees (Optional)

Courier companies often charge store owners an extra fee for collecting cash. Eaglecart allows you to pass this fee on to the customer!

  1. Additional fee: Enter the exact amount you want to charge the customer for choosing COD (e.g., AED 11.00). This fee will automatically be added to their checkout total.

  2. Apply fee only to orders within this range: If you only want to charge the COD fee for small orders, but waive it for large orders, enter a Minimum and Maximum order sub-total here. (Leave both blank to apply the fee to all COD orders).

Step 4: Restrict COD Availability

You might not want to offer COD for every single order. The Availability section allows you to set strict rules for when a customer is allowed to choose Cash on Delivery.

  1. Order subtotal limits: Specify a Minimum and/or Maximum order value. For example, to prevent high-risk fake orders, you can set a maximum limit of AED 1000. If their cart is over AED 1000, the COD option will disappear, forcing them to pay by card.

  2. Shipping rates restriction: You can restrict COD so it is only available in certain regions. Check the boxes next to the specific shipping rates that qualify for COD (e.g., check Domestic Standard, but leave International unchecked).

  3. Save: Once you are happy with your settings, click the black Save button at the bottom right!
