Why Customize Your Checkout?
Faster Checkout: By making fields optional or hiding them, you can create a quicker, simpler checkout process, which helps reduce abandoned carts.
Collect Important Information: By making fields required, you can ensure you always get the necessary information for shipping and marketing.
B2B Sales: You can enable fields like "Company name" if you sell to other businesses.
How to Access Checkout Settings
From your Eaglecart admin dashboard, click on Settings in the bottom-left corner.
From the Settings menu, click on Checkout.
You are now on the checkout customization page. All the options for your checkout form are located here.
Managing Your Checkout Fields
Here is a breakdown of the key sections and what they control:
1. Customer Contact
This section controls how your customers can be contacted.
Email: You can make providing an email mandatory for all orders. This is highly recommended for sending order confirmations and shipping updates.
Phone Number: You can require a phone number, which is very useful for your delivery driver or courier.
2. Customer Address Information
This section controls the fields for the customer's shipping address.
Full name: You can choose to collect the customer's full name as a single field or as separate "First name" and "Last name" fields.
Company name:
Don't include: The field will not be shown.
Optional: The field will be shown, but customers can leave it blank.
Required: Customers must enter a company name to complete the checkout. This is useful for B2B stores.
Address line 2 (Apartment, suite, etc.): You can choose to make this field optional or required. For deliveries in the UAE, making it required or optional is often helpful.
Shipping address phone number: You can choose to hide this or make it required if you need a separate number specifically for delivery purposes.
(Note: You will replace this with a real screenshot from your UI showing these form options.)
3. Checkout Preferences
These options control the overall behavior of the checkout.
Require sign in before checkout: If you turn this on, customers must log in to an account before they can purchase. It's generally recommended to leave this off to allow for guest checkout, which is faster for new customers.
Use the shipping address as the billing address by default: This is a great time-saving feature for customers. We recommend keeping it on. Customers can still choose to enter a different billing address if needed.
Remember to click the Save button in the top right corner after making any changes to apply them to your live store.
