Working with Blocks Inside Sections

Learn how blocks work inside sections in the Eaglecart theme editor — what a block is, where to find them, how to add a block, and how to edit each one.

Written by Support

If sections are the bands that stack to build a page, blocks are the smaller pieces inside a section. A hero's slides, a product page's title and price — these are all blocks. Once you can open, add, and edit blocks, you control a section right down to its individual parts.

What's the difference between a section and a block?

A section is a full band of the page (a hero, a product area, a footer). A block is an element nested inside a section. For example, the Hero section contains Slide blocks, and the Product Main section is built from blocks like Title and Price.

How do I see the blocks inside a section?

On the Sections tab, any section that contains blocks shows a small expand arrow (chevron). Click it to reveal the section's block list and an + Add block link. For instance, expanding Hero reveals its Slide block.

Which blocks make up a product page?

The Product Main section is built from these blocks: Gallery, Title, Price, Variants, Custom options, Quantity & Add to cart, Description, and SKU. You arrange and configure them once on the template, and every product page follows that layout — while each product's actual image, name, and price come from the product itself.

How do I add a block?

Expand the section so its blocks are visible, then click + Add block and choose the block to insert.

How do I edit a block?

Click a block in the left panel to select it. Its settings open in the panel on the right, the same way a section's do, and the preview updates as you change them. The available options depend on the block type.

What are the "Slide" blocks in the Hero?

The Hero is built from Slide blocks — each slide is one screen of the hero (image, text, and button). Because the Hero can run as a carousel, you can add several Slide blocks to create a rotating banner. (The Hero's own settings are covered in Building your homepage hero.)

Do block changes apply to every page?

The same rule as sections applies. Blocks in shared areas (Header, Footer) affect every page, and blocks in a Template section — like Product Main — apply to every page of that type. The specific content still comes from each product.

FAQ

Why do only some sections have blocks?

Some sections are simple bands, while others are containers built from smaller pieces. Only container sections show the expand arrow and the + Add block link.

Can I add more than one of the same block?

Yes for slides — the Hero supports multiple Slide blocks to build a carousel. Other sections vary by type.

Where do a block's settings appear?

In the panel on the right, after you select the block in the left panel.

If I change a block on the Product template, does it affect all products?

Yes — the Product template's layout applies to every product page. Each product's own details (images, name, price) still come from that product.
