Working with Sections: How to Build Your Pages

Learn how sections work in the Eaglecart theme editor — the Header, Template, and Footer groups, adding new sections, and customising each one's settings.

Sections are the building blocks of every page. A page is just a stack of sections, one above the other, and each one has its own settings. Once you understand how to add and customise sections, you can shape any page in your store.

What is a section? A section is a self-contained band of your page — for example, a hero banner, a row of products, a features strip, or an FAQ. You stack sections to build a page, and you customise each one independently.

How are sections organised in the editor? On the Sections tab (the layers icon) in the left panel, sections are grouped into three areas: Header — your Announcement bar and Header; Template — the main content of the page you're currently editing; and Footer. The Header and Footer are shared across every page, while the Template group is unique to each page type.

How do I add a section? Each group has an + Add section link. Click it to open the picker and choose a section to insert. Common homepage section types include Hero, Collection Products, Collection Grid, Features, and FAQ.

How do I edit a section's look and content? Click a section in the left panel (or click it directly in the preview) to select it. Its settings open in a panel on the right, and the preview updates as you change them. For example, selecting the Hero section shows options such as Section width, Color scheme, layout and height, and spacing.

What do the arrows next to some sections mean? A small expand arrow (chevron) next to a section means it contains blocks — smaller pieces inside the section. For instance, Hero expands to reveal a Slide block. Working with blocks is covered in Working with blocks inside sections.

Where do I manage a section? Select the section, then open the … (more options) menu at the top of its settings panel. That menu is where a section's management actions live.

Do section changes apply to every page? It depends on the group. Header and Footer sections are shared, so editing them updates every page in your store at once. Template sections only affect the page type you're currently editing.

FAQ

Why don't I see the same sections on every page?

Because the Template group is specific to each page type (Homepage, Product, Collection). Only the Header and Footer are shared across all pages.

Where do a section's settings appear?

In the panel on the right, after you select the section in the left panel or the preview.

Some sections have an arrow and others don't — why?

Sections with an arrow contain blocks inside them. Sections without one are self-contained.

If I edit the Header section, does it change everywhere?

Yes. The Header, Announcement bar, and Footer are shared, so one edit updates them across the whole store.
